Famous Kentuckian Loretta Lynn

         

Hello, my name is Loretta Lynn.  I was born on April 14, 1932 in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky.  My parents were Clara and Melvin Ted Webb.  I was married to Oliver Mooney Lynn and had 6 children.  I am still alive. I am a famous country music singer and an author. I have written lots of songs like “You Ain’t Woman Enough” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

Some interesting things about me would be that I have a famous sister named Crystal Gayle. I had a movie made about me in 1980 called “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” And I was in The Grand Ole Opry for 50 years.   I became known as “The First Lady of Country Music” and focused on every day women’s issues. I was the first country music female to get a number 1 hit called “You Ain’t Woman Enough.”

                 Two of my famous quotes are: “Nobody’s perfect, the only one that ever was, was crucified.” And “Tears are words that the heart can’t express.”

Famous Kentuckian, William Shatner

William Shatner

 Hello, my name is William Shatner. I was born on March 22, 1931 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. My parents were Anne and Joseph Shatner. I was married 4 times to Gloria, Roisin, Nerine, and Elizabeth and had 2 children. I am currently 81 years old.

I have been an actor for 61 years. I received my Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 1983. I am famous for playing Captain T. Kirk on the television series Star trek. The series ran from 1966-1969. However, the show still often plays in syndication and has been popular for nearly 50 years.

More recently I am known for playing Juliet’s father on the show Psych and also the Priceline Negotiator commercial.

I own a 360-acre horse farm in Woodford County, Kentucky where I currently live.
My accomplishments made a difference because due to my portrayal of the character Captain Kirk, I helped to make science fiction popular.

Famous Kentuckian, Laura Clay

Hello, my name is Laura Clay. I was born on February 9, 1849 in Richmond, Kentucky. My parents were Cassius Clay and Mary Jane Warfield Clay. I was president of the Kentucky woman suffrage association. I was also famous for being a member of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. I also was the first president of the Kentucky Equal Rights Association. In 1920, I was the first woman to be ever nominated for president of the United States. I never married which was unusual at the time.

My accomplishments made a difference because I helped woman be able to buy property, I also helped woman be able to control their income and also made it possible for woman to make wills.

Two of my famous quotes are: “suffrage is God’s cause and God leads our plans” and “I feel rebellious, sometimes I think I have a mind superior to any boy my age.”

I died June 29, 1941 and am buried in the Lexington Cemetery along with Henry Clay.

Famous Kentuckian, Ashely Judd

Ashley Judd

Hello, my name is Ashley Judd. I was born on April 19, 1968 in Los Angeles California.  My parents are Michael Ciminella and Naomi Judd.  My sister is Wynonna Judd.  I am married to Dario Franchitti and we have no children.

I spent my childhood back and forth between California and Kentucky between my divorced parents.  I attended 12 different schools.  Before my sister and mother made it big with their singing, we were very poor.  I spent much time reading and acting our characters in the books for entertainment. This is what sparked my interest in acting. 

I have been in 23 movies.   Including Divine Secrets of the YA YA Sisterhood, Where the Heart Is, Simon Birch, Dolphin Tale, Someone like You and many more. 

Some interesting facts about me are; I am an actress, my mom and sister are singers and my husband Dario Franchitti is a famous race car driver.  I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in French. I am a HUGE UK fan and I attend as many basketball games as possible.

Hello, my name is Laura Clay. I was born on February 9, 1849 in Richmond, Kentucky. My parents were Cassius M. Clay and Mary Jane Warfield Clay. I went to the Sayre School in Lexington. I never married. Instead I devoted my life to the women's suffrage movement. I was influenced by my older sisters and my mother. I spent much of my life in defending the rights of women.

I worked with Susan B. Anthony in establishing women's suffrage societies throughout Kentucky and I was a co-founder of the Kentucky Equal Rights Association. In the 1920 Democratic National Convention I made United States history as the first woman to be nominated for President by a major political party.

I died on June 29, 1941 and am buried in the Lexington Cemetery.

Famous Kentuckian: Harold PeeWee Reese

Hello, my name is Harold Reese.  I was born on July 23, 1918 in Ekron, Kentucky.  Carl Reese was my dad. I was married to Dorothy Walton and I died on August 14, 1999 at the age of 81 in Louisville.   Although I am very small, I did not get my nickname PeeWee from that.  My nickname came from a kind of marble because I was a champion marble player.

I was a famous professional baseball player. However, because I was so small, I did not start playing baseball until my senior year in high school.

My best friend Jackie Robinson was the first black Major League baseball player. The Dodger’s paid me $75,000 to play for them.  I was the caption of the Dodgers and I liked it and I liked to win games. I was a ten time all-star player. I scored lots of runs for the team. I played short stop.  I was so good I made it to the hall of fame. One Thing I would do differently is to swing more.

I was also in the Navy and I fought in World War Two.

Hello my name is Mary Todd Lincoln. I was born on December 13, 1818 in Lexington, Kentucky. My parents were Robert S. Todd and Eliza Parker Todd. I was married to Abraham Lincoln in 1842 who was the 16th president of the United States. Abe and I had 4 children. 

I was famous because I was the First Lady of the United States. 

Some unusual facts about me are: I acted in many plays. I once dated Stephen A. Douglas. I spoke French fluently. I also believed in freedom for all Americans. One of my famous quotes was “Clouds and darkness surround us, yet heaven is just” and “The day of triumph will surely come, when justice is served.’ 

I died after having a stroke in 1882 in Springfield, Illinois. and Eliza Parker Todd. I was married to Abraham Lincoln in 1842 who was the 16th president of the United States. Abe and I had 4 children.

I was famous because I was the First Lady of the United States.

Famous Kentuckian Helen Turner

Hello, my name is Helen Turner. I was born on November 13, 1858 in Louisville, Kentucky. I was never married and had no children. I died in 1958 at the age of 99. 

Before the Civil War my life was great. My father owned a successful coal mining business and we lived in a beautiful house.  Then, my mother died when I was only 7, and my brother got killed in a mining accident, my father lost his fortune, and then died.   I became an orphan at 13 years old.

My uncle took me and my other siblings to live in New Orleans with him. My uncle inspired me to become an impressionist painter.  I attended the Art Students League.  I also took free classes at Cooper Union School of Design for Women.  I studied at Columbia and received my teaching certificate.  I worked in New York at the YWCA for 17 years teaching ladies fashion illustrations. 

I became famous because I was an impressionist painter.  I did not do a preliminary sketch under my paintings and had a mosaic quality to my paintings. 

My paintings have been displayed in many museums.   

My accomplishments made a difference because my paintings make the world more beautiful and everyone is happy with them.
